Epica returning to Israel

Two years after previous gig in Jewish state, Dutch symphonic metal band to perform in Tel Aviv on December 11

Dutch metal band Epica will return to Israel for a December 11 gig at Tel Aviv's Barby club. The band performed in Tel Aviv about two years ago, filling the club to the brim.

This time the group will arrive in the Jewish state after a long European tour, which is scheduled to conclude at the end of November.

The first ticket buyers will be able to get a ticket for the reduced price of NIS 139 (about $38.5) at the Metal Shop in Tel Aviv. The person behind the band's arrival is producer Lior Kameli.

Epica, the symphonic metal ensemble, was founded in 2002 and is headed by lead vocalist Simone Simons, who is only 23 years old but has already released four albums.

Simons. Loves Ofra Haza

In an interview with Ynet during her previous visit to Israel, Simons said that one of her most favorite female singers of all times was none other than late Israeli performer Ofra Haza.

"She has a great voice and I really love her singing style," Simons said. "It really touches me and I love listening to her."

Simons is accompanied by guitarist and musician Mark Jansen, previously a member of the After Forever band.

The group's latest album, "The Divine Conspiracy," was released in September 2007 and was highly praised by the media and fans. Following the album, the band launched its first tour in the United States as a leading band rather than a supporting one.

Epica will arrive in Israel after a busy month in terms of metal and rock. American band Slipknot will perform in Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park on November 2, Belgian death metal band Aborted will perform on November 6 in Tel Aviv's Barby club, and English hard rock band Whitesnake will perform in the Yarkon Park on November 11.
