Prime Minister of the Netherlands will visit Israel in December
Tel Aviv, October 22, 2013

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, will visit Israel from 7-9 December, 2013. He will come to Israel for the official launch of a ‘cooperation forum’ between the two countries. This was announced today by the ambassador of the Netherlands, Caspar Veldkamp, at an Israeli-Dutch business seminar on water technology at the WATEC conference in Tel Aviv. Mr. Rutte will be accompanied by minister of foreign affairs Frans Timmermans, minister of foreign trade Liliane Ploumen, and minister of economic affairs Henk Kamp. “It is quite special that so many Dutch cabinet members jointly visit another country”, said the ambassador. The Dutch government delegation will be accompanied by three business delegations: one from the water technology sector; another from the energy and natural gas sector; and a third focusing on innovation in agriculture and food.

The central focus of the events will be innovation in the various economic sectors, explained the ambassador. Representatives from both countries in the business sector, knowledge institutes, and government, will meet to explore new opportunities for doing business and other cooperation. The visit will also allow for consultations at the political level, on topics of bilateral, regional and EU importance. The cooperation forum will take place on a regular base in Israel and the Netherlands.

The Dutch believe that the level of competitiveness, entrepreneurship and innovation in both countries provides an excellent combination, from which respective private sectors and research institutes can benefit. The Netherlands is the second largest destination of Israeli exports in Europe and dozens of Israeli companies have invested in the country. Due to its central location and with Rotterdam as the largest European port, the Netherlands is considered a key player in the EU economy and a worldwide ‘gateway to Europe’. Trade between both countries reached an all-time high and exceeded USD 5 billion in 2012. Total exports from Israel to the Netherlands reached USD 990 million in the first semester of 2013. Moreover, Dutch and Israeli companies are increasingly joining hands to conquer emerging markets together. “A global outlook has always been our strong point”, said ambassador Veldkamp.
